The Shell Hole. Ypres, Belgium -
After visiting Ypres in summer 2008, we have discovered that
the Shellhole has now been converted into a new hotel. It is no longer run by
the original owners. We wish John and Christine all the best and have fond
memories of our visits. Avril Williams Guest House and Tea Room. Auchonvillers, The Somme, France - Avril is an outstanding woman and very knowledgeable on the events that happened on the Somme during WW1. The cellar of the guest house were used by French and British troops during WW1 and Avril and the cellar have been shown on TV documentaries. Avril's website is

These are a couple of places Tony has stayed at during his visits to the battlefield and he always found them very reasonable in price and comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and you could always meet a lot of like minded people with whom you could swap information.
